Dr. Matt Milano has conducted social science research on diverse topics for over 30 years. He holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and he has conducted research at the National Institute of Mental Health, the Ohio University and as a director/owner of several national research consulting firms. His quantitative research experience includes design and implementation of surveys and questionnaires that have been administered to thousands of research participants nationwide, statistical analysis of private and government data (e.g., census data) and interpretation of findings. His qualitative research experience includes the design, implementation and analysis of focus groups and in-depth interviews (IDIs) that have totaled thousands of respondents.
Dr. Milano’s professional focus involves designing and implementing research to understand the attitudes, opinions and experiences that drive individual and group decision-making. He applies his research and analysis to the development of persuasive messages and he coaches persons tasked with delivering these messages. He has developed and refined persuasive messages for academics, research scientists, politicians, CEOs, and other top executives.
Dr. Milano has analyzed the jury deliberations and survey responses of thousands of mock jurors and advised clients on effective case presentations in complex litigation nationwide since 1990. He has worked with major law firms, corporations and insurance companies in venues around the country on a broad range of cases including personal injury, complex business litigation, intellectual property, antitrust, employment, construction, RICO, insurance bad faith, toxic tort, product liability and professional malpractice. Dr. Milano has testified as an expert in jury behavior, witness preparation, the ability of jurors to separate evidence related to similar corporate defendants, change of venue, and the impact of media exposure on potential jurors. He has published articles and presented continuing legal education seminars on issues related to jury persuasion, case analysis, jury selection, witness preparation, and other topics relevant to litigators. Dr. Milano has served on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Trial Consultants and as the Secretary-Treasurer of ASTC.
Dr. Milano’s research philosophy is based on a commitment to the belief that research related to human behavior should include three important components. First, it is important to understand what people do. Next, research must delve deeper to understand why people make the choices they do. Finally, based on an understanding of human motivation, research should identify opportunities to affect positive behavior change.
Dr. Milano has direct experience with the development and implementation of public policy through his service as an elected City Councilman. In his role as Councilman, Dr. Milano participated in the oversight of an annual operating and capital improvement budget of $90 million. He served on several Boards of Directors, including the Board of a Town Center Reinvestment Zone in which he oversaw the tax increment financing for $63 million in development and infrastructure improvements. The development included a performing arts center, business center, recreation and aquatic center, library, and infrastructure improvements.
Dr. Milano has testified as an expert witness in areas relevant to research, been quoted in national newspapers, and appeared on national television news broadcasts as a commentator on social science and research issues. He has produced over 60 professional publications and presentations.
For over 30 years, Dr. Sandra “Sandy” Donaldson has helped clients prepare for all stages of litigation from pre-discovery through mediation, arbitration, trial, and post-trial case assessment.
Dr. Donaldson provides clients with a social science based perspective on refining case strategies, guiding decisions with the ultimate decision maker in mind, building compelling case narratives, enhancing the effectiveness and credibility of witness testimony (with a focus on cross-cultural differences), venue analysis, jury selection, trial monitoring, and post-trial case assessment. Dr. Donaldson’s analysis is based on unique and well-designed jury research, which has included talking with thousands of mock jurors and real jurors in venues across the country.
Dr. Donaldson holds a Ph.D. in Social Psychology and she is an active educator on topics related to jury behavior and trial analysis. Dr. Donaldson currently serves as the Vice President of the American Society of Trial Consultants. With Dr. Donaldson’s assistance, clients make more informed decisions about whether to settle cases or take them to trial. Her jury research and consulting help guide clients to developing appropriate settlement positions and effective trial strategies. Dr. Julie Howe holds a Ph.D., in social psychology and has conducted social science research on a range of topics using a variety of methodologies for the over 20 years. Her experience includes quantitative and qualitative design methodologies that ensure a holistic approach and achieve the most information possible from appropriately sampled research participants and existing data. She designs, implements and conducts studies that rely on census data, research questionnaires, telephone surveys, individual in-depth interviews, observation of group deliberation, moderation of round table discussions and focus groups.
Dr. Howe’s analytic skills include the quantitative analysis of small and large data sets as well as the qualitative assessment of response to open-ended questions, group deliberation and focused discussions that involve content analysis and the evaluation of group dynamics. Her reports include not just findings, but also insights on potential implications and ideas for application and future research.
Dr. Howe has applied social psychology research methods to the study and analysis of jurors since 1997. Drawing on over 16 years of diverse experience in the field of trial consulting, Dr. Howe works closely with counsel, in federal and state venues nationwide, to effectively communicate their clients’ cases and develop successful trial strategies. She consults on all phases of litigation including case issue analysis, pre-trial research, jury selection, witness preparation, support at trial and post-trial juror interviews. Dr. Howe is an active member of The American Society of Trial Consultants and planned a successful 2012 annual conference. She has served on the Board of Directors and in other leadership roles since joining in 1997.
Dr. Howe is also a member of The American Psychology Association, The National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Qualitative Research Consultants Association, The Association of Public Opinion Researchers and The American Business Women’s Association. She is a frequent invited speaker at national and local bar associations, and designs and participates in continuing legal education programs. Talks include, “Beyond the Math: Whether to Settle or Take Your Case to a Jury,” and “Using Juror Questionnaires to Improve Voir Dire Conditions.”
Matt Raymond has thrived in research and marketing for the past 25 years. He has studied and promoted transportation in Denver, Dallas and Los Angeles. Mr. Raymond spent the last decade as chief communications officer for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority where he developed and implemented one of the most aggressive rebranding efforts the transportation world has seen. His work was featured in Communication Arts and Fast Company and led Metro to be the first public agency ever to receive the global “Rebrand” award – the highest international recognition for excellence in brand transformation and repositioning. Mr. Raymond also initiated and directed the effort to pass Measure R – a 2008 transportation sales tax for Los Angeles County.
At Denver RTD, Mr. Raymond utilized research to create a complete line of transportation programs specifically designed for business, including the Eco Pass – the “most successful transit pass program in the country,” according to the U.S. General Accounting Office. Mr. Raymond introduced light rail, carpool lanes and bus ways to Colorado and pioneered safety protocols and outreach for all three modes. As AVP of marketing and advertising at Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) he introduced light rail, commuter rail, and HOV projects. Mr. Raymond directed marketing research and created a variety of new successful transportation programs and services. He was responsible for DART´s redesigned customer information system and new fare structure.
Based on extensive survey research, Mr. Raymond led the team that created Eco Pass, the revolutionary pass program, which is now used in various forms by transit systems across the country. Research of area employers identified an unmet demand. Research of transit riders and non-riders identified opportunities for ridership growth. Mr. Raymond has used research findings as the basis to draft and implement over a hundred transportation policies and has gone on to apply research to develop numerous successful transit pass programs, various types of transit services and the largest and fastest growing vanpool program in the country.
Mr. Raymond serves on the TCRP panel “Serving the Mobility Preferences of Generation Y,” a study designed to understand the millennial mindset and mobility preferences and he serves as a professor at the Mineta Transportation Institute.
Mr. Raymond holds a Master’s Degree in marketing and a Masters´ Degree in public administration from the University of Colorado at Denver. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in business from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Dr. Michael Spendolini has over 30 years of experience in the field of Industrial/Organizational Psychology and Organizational Development. His fields of expertise include Benchmarking (he authored one of the seminal works in this field, "The Benchmarking Book"), Customer Satisfaction Measurement and feedback systems, and over the past several years has become a well-regarded consultant in the growing field of Social Media Best Practices for Organizations.
Dr. Spendolini has delivered over 300 managerial seminars for organizations that include the American Management Association, The American Marketing Association, The California Institute of Technology, Motorola University, and others. Dr. Spendolini has also provided consulting services for a diverse number of organizations including the public and private sectors, profit and nonprofit, Fortune 500 and small startup organizations. He has published over 50 articles in his areas of expertise and has been a presenter and Chairperson at dozens of national and international conferences. Lijoy Samuel holds a M.S. in Business from The Johns Hopkins University, a M.S. in Computer Science and Mathematics and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Ohio University. He has over 23 years of experience developing large complex software and server systems. He has worked directly with several customers around world including Korea Telecom, the Wall Street Journal and Fujifilm.

Judy Cantwell earned a B.A. degree in psychology & sociology and a master’s degree in counseling & organizational dynamics. Ms. Cantwell’s specialties include coaching, training, and psychological intervention, as well as consulting in the areas of organizational dynamics, the multi-cultural workplace and behavioral performance in the workplace. Her clients have included for profit and nonprofit organizations; collective bargaining groups; local, state and federal government agencies; higher education; hospitals; medical professionals; banking; technology; the petroleum industry; communications; broadcasting and beverage companies in the U.S., Saudi Arabia, and the Caribbean.

Angelo Theofanous, M.S. has designed research methodologies and conducted statistical data analysis for over 27 years. He holds a Master’s Degree in Quantitative Psychology, with coursework that included both theoretical mathematics as well as applied data analysis. He has worked as a Statistician with a medical research team, as a Market Research Analyst and Statistician with the National Geographic Society and as a Senior Consultant with Booz Allen & Hamilton.
Mr. Theofanous’ work has involved database design, project management, data architecture, statistical market segmentation, developing statistical models for data mining, credit risk modeling, sales forecasting, and decision support.
